 Walk Deep

A book of Poetry

By Abigail Morgan Prout

The book cover (above) gives a nod to Spiral Leadership and it’s influence in this work.

This book was born from Spiral Leadership!

Walk Deep is a true example of what can be produced using the Spiral Way

During Covid, I (Abigail) decided to give myself completely to practicing what I preach.

Through my daily attunement practice of walking meditation through a familiar island forest, nature collaborated with me to expand and clarify my insights on many topics.

Walk Deep is a full range exploration of the whole self-- poems covering topics relating to professional coaching and leadership, the climate crisis and our changing relationship with the Earth, the challenge of raising adolescents during COVID, the critical evolution of womanhood during this time, and some more personal topics (marriage, abortion, accepting my mother’s aging  and the death of my father, and making peace with divorce amongst other topics).

I was able to emerge from the forest everyday with an inspiration to dare to share through writing.

These poems were them sent out on an email list as shitty first drafts called “Viral Poetry” to hundreds of people.  This resonant field then provided acknowledgements, championing and valuable (sometimes hard) feedback on the writing.  After spiraling many times with this process, I swung out and dared to share even bigger by submitting this manuscript by entering the homebound Poetry Prize contest- and lo and behold, I was the finalist!  Walk Deep was also 2023 winner of the Nautilus Awards and is currently nominated for a Pushcart prize.

Walk Deep is now available

Homebound Publications is an independent publisher that is committed the values of nature conservation, creativity and community.

words of praise for Walk-deep

“Abigail lovingly invites us to open ourselves to consider what it means to belong to this big wild hurting world. It is a great pleasure to walk with her through reading these poems.”

- Jennifer Louden, national best-selling author of Why Bother and writing teacher

“Walk Deep’s devoted, interconnected journey towards authenticity is alive with deep feeling. Like the mycorrhizal roots of an old-growth forest, these poems weave self, nature, and family within a living word-web.”

-Annie Finch, author of Spells: New and Selected Poems and A Poet’s Craft

“This is accessible poetry, written with an intelligence that sees beyond the ordinary , giving us a glimpse into the extraordinary. As a collection, Walk Deep invites us to pause at the wisdom of the intersection where human nature, with all its complexities, meets the natural world.  Reading these poems, I feel connected to that mysterious and beautiful force, to my own humanity, and to all who share this planet with me.”

-Kat Kehres Knect, author and CEO of Soul Driven Success, Evolve Your Coaching Business, The Soul Search
